Location tracking

Keep track of your assets anytime, anywhere

Real-time location tracking can prevent loss or theft of assets and provide valuable operational insights. Learn about the different technologies available and how we can help you implement a cost-effective solution.

Real-time location tracking provides many benefits to businesses. The primary use case for location tracking is to prevent loss or theft of valuable assets, which reduces the risk of financial loss. However, it can also provide valuable operational insights, such as resource utilisation, allowing you to make data-driven decisions that optimise efficiency and improve the bottom line. Another use case is monitoring supply chain integrity, for example, tracking if an asset has exceeded a certain temperature or has been dropped during transit.

There are several technologies available to track your assets:

  • GPS (Global Positioning System) is a satellite-based navigation system used to determine the location of an object. It works by using a network of satellites to provide location data to a GPS receiver, which then determines its precise location and reports it via the mobile phone network. GPS location tracking is ideal for outdoor applications, such as vehicle tracking, but may not be suitable for indoor environments where GPS signals may not be available or accurate.
  • RTLS (Real-Time Location System) location tracking, on the other hand, uses various technologies, such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, RFID, and UWB, to determine an object's location in real-time. Unlike GPS, which relies on satellites.. RTLS location tracking is ideal for indoor environments, where GPS signals may not be reliable.
  • Wirepas* Mesh is a self-healing, reliable and secure smart tracking solution designed for large-scale installations. It‘s a fully battery-powered RTLS technology that’s easy to install and roll out without disrupting your operation. Wirepas Mesh provides affordable tracking for anything you need to keep tabs on, providing immediate, accurate insights into your assets. It has applications in manufacturing, logistics and hospitals. (See our related blog)

It's possible to combine these technologies for both indoor and outdoor tracking to get the best of both worlds.

Wireless technologies have made location tracking more accessible than ever before, making it possible to cost-effectively track a wider range of portable, mobile, or nomadic assets. If you need to keep track of the whereabouts of your assets, the technology exists to do so relaiably and cost-effectively.
